Student Success Stories
As a homeschool student, my daughter had a rather late start to band instruments. She started under the direction of Scott Himel as a sophomore in high school, with minimal experience. Mr Himel instilled a love of learning and appreciation for music and a desire to work. He always pushed her in the best way possible and always encouraged her and supported her.
As a Junior in High school, with only a year of band experience, Scott encouraged his students to audition for the TPSMEA All State Band. My daughter was selected in the All State Band, and that experience is what made her realize that she truly enjoyed playing with other musicians that put in the kind of work she had put in.
After 3 years of band under the experience and direction of Scott Himel, my daughter decided to continue band in college, not as a major, but purely as something she enjoys. Because Scott always encouraged the students to try new things. My daughter joined her college band with a scholarship! Because of Scott’s encouragement, she now plays saxophone with the Arkansas Razor Backs Marching Band, Bass Clarinet with the Wind Symphony and flute with the worship team.
Our band experience under the direction of Scott Himel is the best investment we have ever made for our daughter, as he is truly committed to investing in his students.

The DFW Honor Band has been such a great experience! It is fun and Mr Himel helps the kids learn at their own speed. My 2 sons had amazing Christmas and Spring concerts and earned 1st division at their band competitions. My boys also did really well at their first solo contests, which made them feel proud of all their hard work. I definitely recommend this band to any family – whether your child is just starting out, or already has experience.
